People Chasing Rainbows

Let's find the rainbow
Thus begins the search
For that high arch of banded beauty
Fleeting,  ephemeral
A splash of color
Driving away the gray

Let's find the rainbow
Not a laughing quest, not this one
But instead a silent solemn march
In search of the joy
Nestled within
The pale majestic colors
Of Nature's ancient palette

Let's find the rainbow
Minute after minute, hour after hour
Rolling hills newly greened
And one long solitary road
Few words spoken
But the need is there

Let's find the rainbow
Dark cloudy skies
A gloominess matched and surpassed
Backtracking, coming home
No victory, no matter
All that is needed is right there
Beside me
People chasing rainbows.
