Afternoon In the Park

The dull roar of cars
All around us
Muted by the rustling whispers
Of dead leaves against the ground
Of dead leaves rubbing against the bark

The quiet laughter
Of children in the distance
Brings smiles and thoughts of the future
When those same children
Carry the simple pledge of our love

The could of the bench
Hard and unyielding below
Mixing with the warmth of love
Wrapped around, enfolding all
Bringing peace out of sadness
